“We used to get water from the river where even animals were drinking from. We had a lot of cases of cholera.

I used to walk about 200m to the river. The path was not safe especially in this rainy season. It was so slippery and people used to fall. The water was so dirty and at times we used to wait for the dirty water to pass and then get our water but at times, we could not wait so the dirty water was used.

The pump has made a big difference in my life. It is simpler and easier for everyone. Diseases like cholera have reduced and I’ve spent less time caring for the sick. I am able to wash clothes for myself and my family at any time as water is readily available. The pump has improved the hygiene and living standards in my family and my community.

I normally wake up at 5am to go to the garden and come back around 1pm. I draw water and cook lunch and wash dishes. Before the pump was installed, I used to wake up around 3am to go to draw water before I go to the garden at 5pm. But now things have changed, I no longer need to wake up early as water is available for everyone.”
