World Water Day

22 March is World Water Day

World Water Day is an international day of observance to draw attention to the plight of more than 1 billion people who are without access to clean, safe drinking water.

The event was born out of a United Nation conference on Environment and Development in 1992, when the General Assembly passed a resolution that states across the globe should devote 22 March to highlighting water-related issues such as supply and sanitation.

The first World Water Day was celebrated the following year, and the event grows in size and scale with each passing year.

The overall aim of World Water Day is to instigate change for future generations.
