There are a number of very well managed and well intentioned charities operating in this field, and we wish them all every success in what they are trying to achieve.
Pump Aid, however, stood out from the crowd as being the most cost effective and well managed of them all. They have a simple philosophy and great understanding of all the issues. They have been around for over 11 years and in that time have delivered sustainable and effective results.
“It isn’t enough to just turn up and dig wells”
We found no other water charity that could provide clean water so cost effectively. Furthermore, we were impressed by their understanding of the wider cultural issues associated with their work. It isn’t enough to just turn up and dig wells. You need to know where the need is greatest and be both sensitive and sympathetic to the people.
In the course of our research, we came across a number of examples where well intentioned organisations had misjudged the people and their requirements.
For us, Pump Aid will enable us to provide more water to more people more effectively.
